Heat pumps
Heat pumps handle most Las Vegas winters without the gas furnace, then carry the entire cooling load in July. They have to be set up for both, or the backup heat runs all night.
A heat pump is an air conditioner that can run backwards. If the cooling side is strong and the heating side is weak, the problem is often defrost, the reversing valve, or a thermostat that was never configured for a heat pump.
On replacements we talk through strip heat, dual fuel, and what a higher SEER2 number is actually worth on a 115° design day.
What we look for
- Outdoor unit freezing in winter
- Emergency heat that never turns off
- Cooling that is fine and heating that is not
- A replacement conversation for an aging heat pump
